Sex Magic Bites

I recently completed a full round of Whole30, and as I tentatively add in non-compliant foods, I had a desire to experiment with added sugar. In this case in the form of mini dairy free, vegan, chocolate chips. I really wanted to test my sugar dragon and so I created these little bites, lovingly called Sex Magic Bites. I had a pretty bad relationship to sugar before my Whole30 and now that I feel really solid and in control of my cravings, I figured a little healthy experimentation is perfect. ALSO my least favourite holiday is coming (cough Valentine's Day) and I wanted to create a little bit of a themed bite. Perfect for getting your sweet and SEXY on.

So these little sex bites were born. Now what makes them so sexy? Well three key ingredients: maca, raw cacao and goji berries. Bonus ingredient: vanilla extract (the good stuff).

Maca: I purchase my maca in powdered form and it has a caramel like taste. Maca is high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help combat inflammation. Inflammation = no bueno in that beautiful bod of yours. Its also been found to boost energy, balance moods, and improve memory.

Its also been proven in studies that it improves female and male sexual function, balances hormones and enhances libido in both men and women. Heightened sexual desire is a good thing when it comes to living your best life. Your sexual health directly influences a number of other areas in your life (read Pussy: A Reclamation for more info ladies).

Raw Cacao: Cacao is the highest quality and purest quality chocolate. YUM. But most people don't know that its also high in vitamins and minerals, in particular magnesium, iron and calcium. Its also loaded with antioxidants. Cacao is also known for making people feel more blissful, has been touted as the nectar of the gods, and releases hormones such as dopamine and endorphins that boost your mood naturally.

Cacao helps boost libido because of a compound called PEA that triggers the release of endorphins and pleasurable opium like neurochemicals that are naturally released when people fall in love, and during sexual activity. There are also a shit ton of other benefits, but we're talking sexy things in this post.

Goji Berries: In certain Asian countries, goji berries are known as a sexual tonic which basically means they increase sexual desire. It does this thanks to its ability to boost testosterone levels, which is an important hormone in both male and female libido. They are also loaded with antioxidants and beauty boosting nutrients like vitamin C.

Bonus ingredient to mention - Vanilla Extract: I wanted to add this in because vanilla and vanilla beans have been known for centuries as a aphrodisiac. The smell, the taste and the delicious creations that come from vanilla all hold this magical power over men and women. My husband is a sucker for vanilla, is your SO obsessed too?

And now for the recipe! These are easy peasy, and come together quickly. All you need is a food processor and 10 minutes. This recipe makes about 15-20 bites.

SEX MAGIC BITES

Ingredients:

10-15 medjool dates

1/2 cup of raw cashews

2-3 tbsp of raw cacao

1-2 tsp of maca powder

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/4 cup dairy free mini chocolate chips or cacao nibs

1/4 cup goji berries

1 tsp vanilla extract (the real stuff)

a pinch himalayan sea salt

Blend until a dough like consistency forms, and then roll into small balls. Next step is key: refrigerate until set. You can also throw them in the freezer for an hour or two. I suggest making sure they stay in the fridge, it keeps the texture perfect. Chewy and soft, but not melting or falling apart. Perfection. A serving is 1-2 balls.

You can make these as a treat for yourself, or as a perfectly delicious Valentine's Day gift for your bestie or your SO.

PS: If these upset your sugar dragon post-whole30, take some more time on the program. Its so rewarding to kick that sugar dragons ass, and feel in control of food. BUT these are pretty delicious and nutritious for your food freedom.
